Kula from Curtisoara, also known as kula Cornoiu, was built since the first half of the 18th century and was bequeathed by Radu Pistescu to nobleman Cornea with all his estate. The building is structured on three levels with the well in the basement and loopholes and crenels at all levels. By the way it was built and its location on the field it can be classified as a refuge kula, a defense kula or a temporary residence. In time it has suffered many transformations but once the Museum of Gorj Folk Architecture at Curtisoara was built around it it regained its initial shape. It has two large undercrofts with massive oak doors closed by diagonal crossbars. One of the undercrofts is connected with the ground floor through a flight of stairs. At the second floor there is the balcony of the kula offering a panoramic view of the surroundings.
