The present castle dates back to the end of the 16th century – first half of the 17th century. The exact year when the construction started or its beneficiary are uncertain. The construction was completed around the year 1624 when the domain belonged to István (Ștefan) Bethlen de Iktár, the Prince of Transylvania’s brother.

The castle has underground, ground and upper floors. The ground floor chambers were used by the servants while the upper floor ones belonged to noble family. The underground rooms are covered by semicircular brick vaults, the ground floors have arch vaults, specific to the Renaissance period while the upper floor rooms are covered with brick vaults fixed between metal beams, a roofing system specific to the 19th century which probably replaced the carved wood honeycomb, painted by Mathias Veress. The inside door openings, made of stone, are carved in Renaissance style.
